Bulawayo council strick clashes with trade fair

primer display during last year s trade fair.
THE Zimbabwe International Trade Fair got underway in Bulawayo on Tuesday in the middle of a strike by council workers over unpaid salaries.

Burst water pipes were not being attended to; rubbish lay uncollected and council-run clinics were turning patients away after the 3,200 workers walked out on Monday and Tuesday.Council workers were due to be paid on Monday, but Bulawayo is broke – just one of 12 urban councils that are in salary arrears.

There was no significant disruption on the Trade Fair which opened briskly with all space taken, as the country’s premier business exhibition recaptured its former glory.

Council bosses were locked in meetings with unions in a bid to resolve the strike on Tuesday – aware that the breakdown in service delivery could snowball into a full-blown crisis before the fair concludes on Saturday night.

This year’s ZITF has seen the return of European countries after a decade of boycott, but China – fast becoming Zimbabwe’s biggest trade partner – is sending the highest number of foreign exhibitors.

Italy, Poland and Germany are the three European countries represented at the exhibition. Zimbabwe’s neighbours South Africa, Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia were also heavily represented.

Trade fair causes suspension of water rationing

THE Bulawayo City Council on Monday announced it had suspended its water rationing regime for a week, covering the 54th Zimbabwe International Trade Fair ZITF which gets underway on Tuesday and ends on Saturday.

Bulawayo residents have lived under a three-day-a-week water shedding schedule for the last four months as the city grapples with a water supply crisis. But council bosses have decided to keep the taps running as the city prepares to host thousands of visitors and exhibitors from around the world.
An entrance to ZITF(PIC)Extrated from the newzimbabwe.com
According to the new-Zimbabwean.com,Simela Dube, the director of engineering services, told the Zimbabwe Water Resources and Infrastructure Investment Summit being held at the ZITF exhibition centre on Monday that the uninterrupted water supply which started last Saturday will run for seven days.

"The council has decided to shelve water cuts to facilitate smooth holding of the premier trade showcase and cater for the thousands of visitors who have come to the city for the fair," said Dube.

First impression is always the best one thus Bulawayo is trying to show the world how citizen live. Can we say its a bad thing that we all know water is never there but because there are visitors we just have to shut our mouths and enjoy.

city council rebuked

Bulawayo City council has failed its citizens by failing to do its duties properly. There are just there in name allowing other organizations to control matters affecting the public and this really is bad.Everyone knows that the mandate of companies is to make profits not to satisfy the people s needs. Then how do you expect these companies to operate in favor of the people? There is no way that can happen however our leaders have given the companies the right to control the city.

For example, the supply of electricity should be a mandate of the council to its people but our council so it fit to give all the powers to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).That is why ZESA holdings can cut off electricity for residents at any time they want without any apologies sometimes. The public had cash power installed for them because this company was saying there are not paying their dues. However, with this strategy, everyone buys the electricity they can afford but still electricity shedding has even increased i n the city. What is the excuse now.

City of Bulawayo in ZimbabweWhat about Zimbabwe National Roads Services (ZINARA),is it really necessary to give them power over all roads in the city.Inst it there are supposed to maintain those roads in between cities and places and not in cities? What is causing then our council to want to give their responsibilities to other organizations. Is it because of lack of funds or not knowing their sole purpose in a city because as residents we need to know what is going on.We deserve a council that will fight for us so that we have better living standards not position holders. How can our city develops when these companies are only after profits, the council should real look into thus so that Bulawayo can be a better place.

"Bulawayo has long been regarded as the industrial and business capital of Zimbabwe and is home to the National Railways of Zimbabwe because of its strategic position near Botswana and South Africa"said Bulawayo spokes person

and the public needs to see it and experience it and it only takes working together.

Neighborhood watch to be revived

Residents associations in Bulawayo have called upon residents to revive neighborhood watch committees in order to help curb criminal activities that are reportedly on the rise in most suburbs.

Recent Media reports show that in less than two weeks at least three people have been found dead and others raped in different suburbs around the city.

According to the chronicles newspaper, the most recent case is that of a Cowdray Park woman who on Monday was found dead and that of a Lobengula man who was also found dead on the street early Sunday morning.

Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA) secretary Methuseli Mpofu has urged residents to report suspicious people in their communities to the police.
Mpofu said those who hire maids should do thorough background check as they have been receiving numerous reports of maids running away with children left in their care.

“Residents should make sure that they assist each other in their neighborhoods so that they are able to curb criminal activities,” said Mpofu.

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) organizing secretary Ambrose Sibindi has also called upon residents to revive neighborhood watch committees in order to help curb crime. Sibindi said they are yet to hold meetings to appraise residents on crime reduction methods.

council develops the city

BULAWAYO City Council has approved the setting up of three private hospitals in a rare feat for the investment starved

Corporate 24 was founded by Mike Joka, a Harare-based medical doctor. The company already owns several health centres in Harare. Shandrilla Investments got the nod to develop a 100-bed hospital in the high-desnsity suburb of Pumula South.

The hospital would be built near Premier High School along Intemba Road, council said.

Council revealed the hospital would be made up of a trauma centre, casualty department, out patients, X-ray and ultrasound units, a pharmacy, maternity wing and laboratory.

“The piece of land applied for was set aside for the development of a hospital in terms of the layout covering the area and there would be no town planning objections for it to be allocated to the applicant as it would assist the community to gain easy access to a medical facility within their vicinity,” council said in recommending the project.

The third hospital would be built by Veronicare Health at corner Huggins Road in Luveve Suburb. Veronicare said the construction of the 50 to 80-bed facility would start as soon as the council approves the project and would be operational with a year.

It would consist of accident and emergency, maternity, radiology and admissions departments. “The hospital will cater for all residents especially the western suburbs surrounding this area. We will strive to provide fast, affordable and quality health care for all residents,” the investors said in the application to council.

“This project will help to ease pressure on existing hospitals especially government hospitals, (Mpilo Central and United Bulawayo Hospitals) and city council clinics.” However, council said there were urban agriculture activities around the area and proposed to give the investor 2 000 square metres of land.

The council said more land would be made available to the investor when the project took off.
Bulawayo has a few private health institutions and construction of more private hospitals would likely help bring down the cost of healthcare. southern eye

Campaign posters causing more litter in the city

During a clean up campaign held in Bulawayo, there was a realization that the main sources of litter in the CBD were campaign posters and fliers that had been scattered all over the city in order to raise awareness for upcoming functions.
Young people suggested that the city becomes stricter in implementing its by laws where citizens are supposed to seek permission to stick posters around the city and take the responsibility of pulling them down afterwards. This would ensure that the city was in a constant state of cleanliness.

During the clean up,the Mayor of Bulawayo, Mr Martin K Moyo reflected on the importance of keeping the city of Bulawayo clean in order to uphold its status as the cleanest city in Zimbabwe.

“Bulawayo is still one of the cleanest cities in the world; therefore people need to maintain these clean standards. Clean up campaigns are excellent initiatives especially when youths are involved in the process,” said Moyo

Young  people were encouraged  to carry out more initiatives like this in order to inculcate a culture of cleanliness in the city.

The Bulawayo Youth Council (BYC) in partnership with Bulawayo City Council (BCC), Green Pride and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe held a clean-up campaign in the Bulawayo Central Business District. The objective of the clean up was to commemorate International Environment Day which is a day that is set aside to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and to enhance political attention and action..

The youth councilors also managed to collect more cans and plastic bottles for their recycling project which seeks to raise funds for their various developmental projects. Such an environmentally friendly way of raising funds was commended by the partner institutions that encouraged the youth councilors to continue promoting a green society.

As a way of advocating for a clean city, the youth councilors recommended that the NYDT should put up branded bins around Bulawayo. The Cleanup Campaign was an initiative of the BYC, which is part of NYDT’s Local Youth Councils.  More community projects are expected to be implemented by the BYC for the benefit of young people in the city of Bulawayo.

Bulawayo City Council in debt

BULAWAYO City Council, currently owed in excess of US$100 million by residents, companies and government is now in a precarious financial position as it battles to service a debt of US$99 million, a development that has forced the local authority to be tough on its debtors.

The local authority, also waiting for government approval of its US$158 million budget for 2015, says it is finding it difficult to deliver basic services with its debtors increasing almost every month owing to the prevailing economic challenges in the country.Bulawayo City Council (BCC)’s biggest debtor are the residents owing in excess of US$56 million followed by industry and commerce standing at US$42 million and government at US$1,9 million.

“For the domestic debt, you will appreciate that in 2013 there was a directive that as council we should write-off our debtors for the consumers,” said BCC accounting manager, Cyprian Dabengwa.

“As you can see now that debt has risen to US$56 million as at the end of February which means we are not having a lot of payments in terms of our domestic ratepayers.”

In July 2013 the government issued a directive ordering municipalities to cancel all debts owed by residents backdating to February 2009, throwing local authorities into financial turmoil that they are still battling with to date.

Utilising The city s resources

Vice President P.Mphoko.(pic)Daily news.com

"The revival of Bulawayo industry depends on the government according state tenders to ailing companies in the city"vice president Phekezela Mphoko said yesterday.Speaking during a meeting with churches as the Bulawayo large city hall,VP Mphoko said the government must support local industries by buying from them.

If the city council wants to revive Bulawayo the government must support local business ,For example national blankets government  departments such as prisons, hospitals and others should buy blankets there thus supporting Zimbabwean assets
VP Mphoko said we awarded a tender to Sgodophenduka who before, he went out of the country to purchase the goods bought a car because he has no sense of responsibility.

He criticized the idea of awarding tenders to some individuals who, instead of using funds for  projects used them to purchase luxury vehicle at the expense of institutions.

For example Merlin closed down because the country was not supporting it.If government department s such as ,hotels, restaurants had been buying their towels it would still be here.

decentralization of power

Bulawayo city council has shown the world that it has great leaders who can help develop the city in all aspect . however this is impossible because of the decentralization of power which forces them to report to the headquarters first before doing anything which is a tiring process
Zimbabwe is a big country which up to now has failed to decentralize power across the state which has caused a delay in the development of a country

"The problem that we have here is that we a overtly centralized government where you cannot expect much from the local governance because there is a demy god of local governance sited in Harare in their office

The city council has to make decisions at his whims. Even if Bcc has money they have to go and beg Zinwa to construct dams or to implement the Gwayi Shangani project.

family and leadership

In most cases family and leadership always clash as people fail to balance the two.People tend to focus on their work more and the family is left out which is the birth of many family problems. One great man says we work so that we can enjoy with our family not the other way around.

Bulawayo is a family thus we should focus more on how we can develop it and make it better both economically and socially.we should focus on how best we can help our industries so that they do not close and those which have closed down we should find solutions on how there can be funded so that they start functioning. This will increase employment opportunities thus better revenues produced in our city.

According to the Daily news.com Bulawayo Mayor Councilor Martin Moyo is optimistic that the city can tick again provided there are concerted efforts from politicians and the business community to ensure that funds are availed to bail out some of the companies especially those that have persevered during trying times.

Speaking in an interview during a tour of some companies by a delegation from the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr John Mangudya, Clr Moyo said there should be a cheap fund for city companies as most of them could not afford high interest loans since they are already struggling.

“Industry in this part of the country was grossly affected by the economic trauma of the last decade and what is needed is capital injection to acquire efficient equipment that will make it possible to produce cheaply,” he said.

In the picture extracted from the Southern eye.com  further states that Bulawayo City Council needs $4 million to refurbish Ingwebu Breweries and increase distribution vehicles and this shows that the council is leading by example.Placing family first before profits and business. The more industries we have the better our city will become.

Duties of the city council

Bulawayo city council (BCC)is in charge of activities that happen in the city.It is there to make sure everyone gets fair treatment. Its duty is to maintain infrastructure in the city and to make sure everyone gets services such as water supply, electricity, garbage collection, land allocation on time.It is the overseer of the city so that there can be peace and stability.Every area must have basic facilities such as clinics, health centers, schools, churches, shopping centers and entertainment center. All these things are responsibilities of the council and also to create employment for the citizen not take it away.

They must make sure these facilities have enough staff to operate them so that no one can be disadvantaged. That is the staff, by being overworked or the public by slow delivery of services. It becomes an issue of concern when we hear that the council wants to retrench workers who are few already so as to reduce the amount going to paying them.

BCC has set itself on a collision course with its workers with reports that the local authority is revisiting a previous failed resolution to retrench its staffers with the local authority recently flighting a tender to carry out a staff rationalization and job evaluation exercise. Impeccable council sources revealed that the local authority has adopted the move in a bid to deal with budget constraints. The source further revealed that the local authority was nursing a shortage in critical areas, like health services hence they needed to layoff staffers in other departments so as to employ more nurses

BCC has in the past clashed with its workers as it has constantly failed to pay their salaries on time and at one time had considered retrenching just over 1 000 of its workforce.

However deputy mayor Clr Gift Banda downplayed the issue  of retrenchment by saying this was just a routine exercise

"This has nothing to do with retrenchment, we are satisfied with the current establishment although according to our current figures we have just over 3 000 when we actually need 5 000," he said.

"The decision on retrenchment will only be made after the completion of the evaluation, rationalization and restructuring. Before the start and finalization of the exercises we cannot decide whether or not we are retrenching as an organization.

"Rationalization is meant to identify staffing levels in each section and ensure that the levels are commensurate with the level of activity in the city, the staff complement should be supportive of service delivery, job evaluation will be to identify over graded and under graded positions and ensure all positions in council are appropriately graded and there is full utilization of labor while restructuring as an exercise ensures that the structure is cost effective and promotes effectiveness and efficiency," said Mrs Mpofu.

History of Bulawayo

These days those people who went there during war are termed born frees and it is understandable. However today l came to educate those born free about the city of Bulawayo. Its origins and where it is coming from.It is not enough to know tht you stay in this city but one needs to be well aware of where the city is coming from.

it is well known that the City Bulawayo is the second largest city of Zimbabwe after the capital city, Harare. Bulawayo is a city rich in cultural history and a must visit for anyone coming to Zimbabwe

It is one of the oldest and historically most important of Zimbabwe's towns. Certainly one cannot say that they have experienced the full range of Zimbabwe's diversity if they have not been to this bustling city in the southern western part of the country of Zimbabwe. Bulawayo is one of the country's most attractive cities and a major transport hub for Southern Africa.

Bulawayo was the capital of the Ndebele state when Lobengula, son of the King Mzilikazi, ascended to the throne. Lobengula’s initial royal town, established in 1872, was located about 14 miles of the present day city, on a ridge dominated by the Thabas Inyoka - “hill of serpents”. This town has been rebuilt and is known as “old Bulawayo”. Lobhengula eventually moved his royal town, and the locality of the modern Bulawayo city was chosen by King Lobhengula and he also named his royal town Bulawayo, which is the Ndebele word for “the place of slaughter”, in recognition of an armed struggle that Lobhengula was involved in when he ascended to the throne, i.e. “He was being opposed and persecuted by his opponents- and he came out victorious”.

Thus Bulawayo is a city of Kings and Queens and so we should live the part.

corruption unveiled in Bulawayo City Council.

"You say you off to the council to buy a stand,do you have anyone you know in the offices or you have some money to quicken the process couz if not its a waste of time and energy.we tried but it didn't work just go maybe it might be different with you couz you have a shona surname"said a Pumula resident to me recently when l informed her l wanted to buy a stand and start building it.

File picture of housing stands under construction
Add caption
this got me thinking,What has happened to our Zimbabwe, that we can not get any service on time without bribing or knowing someone in the offices. Is this what we voted for?because if it is there is nothing democratic about it.What has happened to the vows these people vowed when they got the jobs that they shall treat everyone fairly and equally.

This really is a bit disturbing especially when the leaders deny that corruption is happening in the council instead of looking into the matter and addressing it before it gets out of hand.We start to wonder whether the leaders are corrupt as well.
A few weeks ago nehandaradio.com exposed an alleged scam within the council’s housing and community services department, with officials being accused of shadily selling more stands than those available in Luveve. It was
further reported that some council officials were unscrupulously fast-tracking stand application forms upon receiving bribes from members of the public.

These developments left council’s housing and community services director Mr Isaiah Magagula with egg on the face after he vehemently denied corruption allegations leveled against his department claiming that these were mere rumors being spread by people with a vendetta against his department.

When such corruption is exposed things have to be looked at and the problem solved.

Increase levels of unimployment in Bulawayo

NUST students on graduation day
Graduating is every university or collage going student s dream. Its a sign that one has completed something and that there have made it in life despite the challenges they faced during the period. Its a sign that one can go out there in the industry and make a difference.IT is a moment one is eager to show off their skills in the market and everyone will be just excited.look at this beautiful picture extracted from the  http://www.proudlyafrican.info/Proudly-African/Proudly-African-Territories/Zimbabwe/Travel-Lifestyle/Training-Education/National-University-of-Science-and-Technology.aspx website. These graduates are happy looking forward to a happy future.

However that is not the feeling these days graduates feel when they finish their courses.Everyone is scared if l may use that term on what will become of them after school because there are no jobs in Zimbabwe to be precise.I think that is why most students are seen selling some staff at school as there will be preparing for vendor-ship after school.Don't you think so TOO?This is all because the country is failing to provide jobs for these young people.

Bulawayo City council is also failing to provide for its youths employment and we see them in street either selling something, idle walking or stealing from someone in order to earn a living. This is a bit degrading to the education sector because whether learned or not people are just the same these days. Those who did not go to school now even appear better than the educated.

How then do you encourage our up coming generation to continue learning when things are like this? What has become our Zimbabwe guys.OK the country we can understand,What about our city of Bulawayo.IS it not the council s responsibility to create employment for its citizen, why are they living industries shutting down and not helping them so that people can find jobs.

A closer look at operation "Tie up order"

stray dogs search for food in dumb sites.
From my previous post people wound think l am anti Bulawayo City Council,(BCC) but however that is not so.I just try to tell it as it is and then let the public comment on their own.As much as they are doing somethings wrong there are also doing somethings right which deserves to be commented on as well. For example the operation Tie up oder is concerned on the public s safety and that is a good thing. our homes and sit on our food

The operation code named "TIE UP ORDER"  started on the 23rd of February and will last up to April 22.It is aimed at enforcing the city dog licensing and control, by laws stipulating that no person shall allow his dog to roam outside his premises without restraint.
This was due to the increase in numbers of rabies report in the city caused by bites from stray dogs. These dogs roam around the city with no one to look after them, they have to savage for food in bins which also leaves rubbish littered all around the city. This also leads to a health hazard thus the council has seen it fit to eliminate these creatures in the city so as to reduce their multiplication in the future.

The stray dogs pose a great danger to the society as there are uncontrollable, there are vicious and violent at most times. They do not get any medication or vaccination thus a great way of spreading rabies in the city if they continue roaming around. They also spread diseases such as cholera from flies that feed from their unattended wounds which then fly to

BCC public relations officer Nessisa Mpofu told the Chronicle that they have shot more than 15 stray dogs in Cowdrey Park Suburb since the operation was launched.

"The operation of shooting stray dogs is in full force. These dogs pose a danger to society as they don't have traceable medical records. If they bite someone,it becomes difficult to trace the dog and the owners since they are always roaming in the streets."said Mfofu

she warned residents not to allow their dogs to stray as they would be shot and no compensation for them will be made

Small children are at great risk of getting bitten by these animals as they like playing outside their gates in the high density suburbs thus these dogs should be eliminated in our society.

These dogs pose a danger to society as they don't have traceable medical records. If they bite someone, it becomes difficult to trace the dog and their owners since they're always roaming in the streets," said Mpofu.

She warned residents not to allow their dogs to stray as they would be shot.

"We would like to allay fears; we will not just shoot any dog. People should tie their dogs and not let them out in the street because they risk being shot. This exercise is meant to prevent the outbreak of rabies," she said.

Before carrying out the operation, BCC flighted a notice in The Chronicle warning residents that they will start shooting stray dogs to prevent bites and possible outbreak of rabies.

"The city of Bulawayo has noted that there is an increasing number of rabies positive dogs and people who are bitten by stray dogs. Dog owners and the general public are advised that in terms of the Bulawayo dog licensing and control by laws, no person shall allow his dog to roam outside his premises without restraint," reads the notice. - See more at: http://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-local-byo-63610.html#sthash.pUvPLq5j.dpuf

Council launched an operation code named "Tie up Order" on February 23 that is expected to run until April 22, aimed at enforcing the city's dog licensing and control by laws stipulating that no person shall allow his dog to roam outside his premises without restraint.

BCC public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu told The Chronicle that they've shot more than 15 stray dogs in Cowdray Park suburb since the operation was launched.

She said stray dogs posed a health and public safety challenge to the city and its residents as it was difficult to trace their vaccination records.

"The exercise of shooting stray dogs is in full force. This week, we shot more than 15 stray dogs in Cowdray Park suburb.

More pot holes in Bulawayo

No more potholes in Bulawayo-Obert Mpofu declares
Minister of Transport Obert  Mpofu and other officials watch the pot holes being filled up early this month in the city center.
It was a moment of joy for  the people who drive when the minister of Transport announced that no more pot holes in the city of Bulawayo. The joy kept on increasing when people were seen at work in the city center filling these pot holes that had made driving a living hell. The picture above even indicates a proud minister showing off a pot hole filler at work between third avenue and Robert Mugabe street.

The city was promised well maintained roads with no pot holes and millions of money was said to have been invested in this project. To be precise the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) gave the city council 1,2 million from the million allocated for the city roads according to Bulawayo.com.

Such a huge amount meant the city of Bulawayo in just a month would be having proper tared roads and the high density ones had to be graded, leveed  until there we in proper conditions. But look at this picture extracted from http://www.herald.co.zw/bulawayo-city-council-struggles-to-rehabilitate-st,it is showing something totally different.

                                                                                                                    degrading road in pumula
However, very few roads were maintained and those maintained are degrading slowly living not just pot holes but pools in the middle of the roads. This is a bit disturbing as we are wondering what     happened to the money allocated for the road maintenance.

what is a bit shocking is that the council according to The Chronicle, is asking for extra  funds amounting to $450 000 so that there can finish up the project which has since stopped because of lack of funds.Should we blame the rains to the degrading of the roads b or the poor material used?Do we blame road users that there are reckless in their road use or we blame Zinara for withholding some of the funds allocated to the project.I don't want to take sides but will leave you to decide on who is wrong here and making our lives as road users a living hell.

BCC Defies the law on water cuts

THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has admitted it is defying a ruling of the High Court outlawing the disconnection of water to residents without a court order, which a judge found amounted to “extortion”said  BCC spokesperson Nesisa Mpofu during a press release

However when we look close to the matter,we discover that the council did not just defy the law out of the fun of it as the citizens are going about it saying it is a form of rebelling against the ruling government. Some even go on to say the city council wants to form a government of its own in our peaceful Zimbabwe just to show that they can.
has any of you people saying this or thinking the same thing thought deeper about why the council would do such a thing.Don't you think there is a reason for them to do so.Don't you think there have you at heart considering what would happen to you when the court of law is involved in debt collection.

YES,l caught you of guide right? Most of the citizen spreading such rumor will have their property seized because you owe the council to much money which you can not pay but you still want to use the water

Mpofu went on to say the city council complied with the High Court order and stopped water disconnections, but the attachment of property didn’t go down well with residents who felt that water disconnections were a better evil,”

The disconnection of water now means that the council is doing residents a favor, can you imagine having to pay your own debt which you can not even afford and also the extra fee to pay the lawyers and the debt collectors involved and worse of all by continuous use of water, your bill automatically increases as well.Isn't it much better, for the water to be cut, your debt stops growing while you look for the money to pay and get your water supply. Now you don't have to worry because once you clear your credit, you can maintain a smaller credit at all times which you can afford.

This is stressful thus Bulawayo residents should be grateful to the council and support therm on this initiative as we are the ones benefiting. We should see the good intentions our leaders have and help the court of law realize it as well.TRUE,together we can make it,but divided we really shall fall.

When something happens once, its a mistake, twice its questionable...

Bulawayo is the second largest city in the beautiful country of Zimbabwe however when we hear the city Mayor complaining about being neglected in huge functions we get worried. Is it a mistake or intentionally done?Questions such as do the public really know the diplomats s rightful place and their rights as the city s representatives in the government. We start to wonder whether the Bulawayo citizen really give their leaders the respect they deserve.we start to wonder whether the citizens are the ones driving the leaders to be corrupt and only care for themselves because of such treatment?

According to the Radio dialogue, article entitled,"BCC keen to retain youth games equipment" published on the 4th of February, the city mayor Martin Moyo made an official complaint to the organizers of the youth games held last year in December over what he term degrading treatment he got during the games. The mayor said the humiliating treatment was no different with all national functions in Bulawayo.

“A case in point was the opening ceremony of these games event where he and other Councilors as civic leaders of the host city were accorded absolutely no recognition at all throughout the event. He had to be relegated to the terraces at the stadium when other dignitaries were accommodated in the VIP tent where all the proceedings were taking place."said Moyo

“This was not the only instance as this trend seems to be replicated at other national events, such as the National Independence Celebrations,” reads part of February council agenda.

When such a respectable man start to complain publicly it means things have gone out of hand.Bulawayo citizen where is our humanity what we call in Ndebele"ubuntu",isn't this the city of Kings where respect for the elders was one thing we grew with. Are we not proud of our city just as our forefathers under the ruler ship of Mzilikazi were.Lets lead by example to the young people out there by giving the rightful respect to our leaders.A happy leaders is accompanied by a happy people.Maybe that is the only solution to a health environment in our city because such behavior is uncalled for in our county. .
