corruption unveiled in Bulawayo City Council.

"You say you off to the council to buy a stand,do you have anyone you know in the offices or you have some money to quicken the process couz if not its a waste of time and energy.we tried but it didn't work just go maybe it might be different with you couz you have a shona surname"said a Pumula resident to me recently when l informed her l wanted to buy a stand and start building it.

this got me thinking,What has happened to our Zimbabwe, that we can not get any service on time without bribing or knowing someone in the offices. Is this what we voted for?because if it is there is nothing democratic about it.What has happened to the vows these people vowed when they got the jobs that they shall treat everyone fairly and equally.

This really is a bit disturbing especially when the leaders deny that corruption is happening in the council instead of looking into the matter and addressing it before it gets out of hand.We start to wonder whether the leaders are corrupt as well.
A few weeks ago nehandaradio.com exposed an alleged scam within the council’s housing and community services department, with officials being accused of shadily selling more stands than those available in Luveve. It was
further reported that some council officials were unscrupulously fast-tracking stand application forms upon receiving bribes from members of the public.

These developments left council’s housing and community services director Mr Isaiah Magagula with egg on the face after he vehemently denied corruption allegations leveled against his department claiming that these were mere rumors being spread by people with a vendetta against his department.

When such corruption is exposed things have to be looked at and the problem solved.
